Buddhist Concept of Freedom

Everybody believes freedom is important. However, the understanding of what defines freedom, can vary tremendously. By and large, freedom to the majority refers to one’s ability to act according to one’s own desires. When people lose freedom, happiness eludes them as well. If we appreciate freedom from another perspective—the perspective of Buddhism, then even one is in incarceration, which is seen as being deprived of freedom, one can still find peace and happiness in such a situation. After all, ultimate freedom comes from realizing the nature of mind.
