Longevity Prayer for Khenchen Sonam Dargye

དཔལ་ལྡན་བླ་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་སྙིང་ལ་ཞུགས། །

palden lamé jinlab nying la zhuk

The blessings of the glorious Master have entered your heart,

རིས་མེད་འགྲོ་ལ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཆར་ཆེན་འབེབས། །

rimé dro la chö kyi char chen beb

So that great showers of dharma pour down upon all beings impartially,

བསླབ་གསུམ་མཛོད་འཆང་བསོད་ནམས་དར་རྒྱས་མཆོག །

lab sum dzö chang sönam dargyé chok

Venerable Sonam Dargye you hold the treasury of the three trainings.

སྐུ་ཚེ་མི་འགྱུར་ཡུན་དུ་བཞུགས་གསོལ་འདེབས། །

kutsé mingyur yündu zhuk soldeb

We pray that you will remain stable in this world for a long time to come!

ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་རི་བོང་འཛིན་པའི་འོད་སྣང་གིས། །

tukkyé ribong dzinpé ö nang gi

Through the illuminating moon-like light of your enlightened intent,

ལྔ་བདོའི་མུན་པ་དབྱིངས་སུ་བསྙིལ་ནུས་ཤོག །

nga dö münpa ying su nyil nü shok

May you have the potential to eradicate the darkness of the five dregs in basic space!

ཅེས་པ་འདི་ནི་བླ་རུང་རྒྱལ་སྤྱིའི་ཆོས་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་སློབ་མ་ཡོངས་ཀྱིས་ནན་ཟབ་ཏུ་བསྐུལ་བ་དང་མཁན་པོ་ཁོང་གིས་ཆེད་དུ་བཀག་པ་མཛད་པས་ཁོ་བོས་ཅི་བྱ་གཏོལ་མེད་དུ་གྱུར་ཀྱང་གློ་བུར་ཡིད་ངོར་ཤར་བ་བཞིན་རབ་བྱུང་བཅུ་བདུན་པའི་མེ་གླང་ཟླ་༣ཚེས་༡༨ལ་ངག་དབང་བློ་གྲོས་མཚུངས་མེད་པས་སོ། །  སྤྱི་ལོ་༡༩༩༧ཟླ་༣ཚེས་༢༧ལའོ། །

Thus, when I was fervently requested to compose this prayer by the entire Chinese sangha community at Larung Gar, the Khenpo himself strongly objected. Feeling uncertain as to how I should proceed, this prayer suddenly arose in my mind stream. I, Ngawang Lodru Tsungmed [H. H. Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche] wrote this down in the seventeenth Rabjung, Fire Ox Year, on the eighteenth day of the second month. March, 27 ^th, 1997.

Long-Life Prayer for Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche

སྟོན་མཆོག་མཉམ་མེད་ཐུབ་དབང་སྲས་དང་བཅས། །

tön chok nyammé tubwang sé dangché

Lord Buddha, supreme and peerless teacher, with his bodhisattva heirs,

འཕགས་བོད་པཎ་གྲུབ་བདེན་ཚིག་གྲུབ་པའི་ཚོགས། །

pak bö pendrub dentsik drubpé tsok

All the learned and realized ones of India and Tibet who proclaim the words of truth,

ཁྱད་པར་ཚེ་ལ་དབང་བའི་རིག་འཛིན་བཅས། །

khyepar tsé la wangwé rigdzin ché

And especially the vidyādharas with mastery over life—

དེང་འདིར་དགེ་ལེགས་སྣང་བའི་ཤིས་པ་སྩོལ། །

dengdir gelek nangwé shipa tsol

Here and now, bestow perfect well-being and manifest good fortune.

མཁྱེན་པའི་ཤེས་རབ་མཁའ་ཡི་འོད་སྣང་གསལ། །

khyenpé sherab kha yi ö nangsal

Your all-knowing wisdom is like the sunlight shining through the sky,

བྱམས་བརྩེ་ལྷག་བསམ་དུང་གི་ཟླ་བ་མཛེས། །

jam tsé lhaksam dung gi dawa dzé

Your supreme intention of loving kindness the lovely conch-white moon,

མཁྱེན་གཉིས་ཉི་ཟླ་ཟུང་གི་རྣ་ཆ་ཅན། །

khyen nyi nyida zung gi nacha chen

And your twofold knowledge the ear-rings of sun and moon,

བསྟན་འགྲོའི་གཉེན་གཅིག་སྐུ་ཚེ་བརྟན་པར་ཤོག །

tendrö nyen chik kutsé tenpar shok

Sole friend of the teachings and beings, may your life be firm and long.

ཤེས་རིག་རིན་ཆེན་ནོར་གྱི་བང་མཛོད་ཆེས། །

sherig rinchen nor gyi bangdzö ché

The priceless jewels in your treasure-house of culture and learning

ས་ཆེན་གོ་ལའི་ཁྱོན་འདི་ཡོངས་བཀང་སྟེ། །

sa chen golé khyön di yong kang té

Fill the whole face of this vast world, and your close disciples,

བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་བུ་སློབ་རྒྱུ་སྐར་བྱེ་བའི་གྲངས། །

gyüdzin bulob gyukar jewé drang

Lineage holders, number millions, like the galaxies of stars—

སྐྱོང་མཛད་སྐྱེས་ཆེན་དམ་པའི་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

kyong dzé kyé chen dampé zhabten sol

You are the one who nurtures them, great and holy being, may your life be firm and long.

མཆོག་གསུམ་རྩ་གསུམ་སྲུང་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་། །

chok sum tsa sum sungmé jinlab dang

By the blessing of the Three Jewels, the Three Roots and protectors

ཚེ་འཛིན་གྲུབ་པའི་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་བདེན་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས། །

tsendzin drubpé tsok kyi den tob kyi

And the power of truth of all who accomplish and hold long life,

ཚེ་ཡི་མི་མཐུན་བར་ཆད་ཀུན་ཞི་ནས། །

tsé yi mitün barché kün zhi né

May all obstacles endangering your life be eliminated—

སྨྲ་བའི་ཁྱུ་མཆོག་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

mawé khyuchok zhabpé ten gyur chik

Pre-eminent among teachers, may your lotus feet be ever stable.

མི་ཤིགས་མི་འགྱུར་གསང་བ་སྐུ་ཡི་ཁམས། །

mishik mingyur sangwa ku yi kham

Your secret wisdom body, may its nature be indestructible and immutable,

མི་འགག་མི་འགྱུར་གསང་བ་གསུང་གི་ཁམས། །

mingak mingyur sangwa sung gi kham

Your secret wisdom speech, may its nature be unceasing and unchanging,

མི་གཡོ་མི་འཕོ་གསང་བ་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་ཁམས། །

miyo mipo sangwa tuk kyi kham

Your secret wisdom mind, may its nature be unmoving and inexhaustible—

གསང་གསུམ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཁམས་སུ་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

sang sum dorjé kham su ten gyur chik

May your three secrets possess the everlasting vajra nature.

ཅེས་པ་འདི་སྙིགས་དུས་ཀྱི་སྐྱེ་འགྲོའི་མགོན་དང་དཔུང་གཉེན་དམ་པར་གྱུར་པ་མཁན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་བསོད་ནམས་དར་རྒྱས་ལགས་སྙུན་གཞི་ལས་གྲོལ་བའི་མཐུན་རྐྱེན་དུ་ཤར་མི་ཉག་འཁྱམ་པོ་པ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཉི་མར་འབོད་པ་དེས་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཏུ་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པ་དེ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ་འགྲུབ་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག །

The true friend and protector of living beings in this dark age is the precious Khenpo Sonam Dargye. So that every favourable condition will accrue to free him from all illness, the wanderer from Minyak called Tudeng Nima made this keen and wholehearted prayer, and may it come about exactly as it says.

om svasti

Oṃ svasti

འཆི་མེད་ཚེ་དཔག་མེད་དང་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་མ ། །

chimé tsepakmé dang namgyalma

Immortal Amitāyus and Vijayā,

ཡིད་བཞིན་འཁོར་ལོ་ཚེ་ཡུམ་ཙཎྜ་ལི། །

yizhin khorlo tsé yum tsenda li

Wish-fulfilling Wheel and Tseyum Chaṇḍālī,

འཆི་མེད་ཚེ་ཡི་དབང་ཕྱུག་པད་འབྱུང་གིས། །

chimé tsé yi wangchuk pejung gi

And Padmasambhava, master of deathless longevity—

དེང་འདིར་འཆི་མེད་རྟག་པའི་བྱིན་ཆེན་ཕོབ། །

dengdir chimé takpé jin chen pob

Let them grant their blessing of everlasting immortality, here and now.

གདུལ་བྱའི་བསོད༵་ནམ༵ས་དཔལ་ལས་གྲུབ་པ་ཡི། །

duljé sönam pal lé drubpa yi

Your very form, caused by the abundant merit of disciples,

གང་སྐུ་ཉི་འོད་འབར་བའི་གཟི་འོད་ཀྱིས། །

gang ku nyi ö barwé zi ö kyi

Is a brilliant shining sun, its radiant light causing

ཕན་བདེའི་པད་ཚལ་ད༵ར་ཞིང་རྒྱ༵ས་མཛད་པ།

pendé petsal dar zhing gyé dzepa

The lotus garden of happiness and bliss to grow and flourish:

མཚུངས་མེད་མཁས་པའི་དབང་པོ་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

tsungmé khepé wangpo tak zhuk sol

Peerless lord among scholars, remain forever, I pray.

རྒྱལ་བའི་བསྟན་པ་སྤྱི་དང་ཁྱད་པར་དུ། །

gyalwé tenpa chi dang khyepardu

So that the buddhas’ universal teaching and particularly

མཚུངས་མེད་རྔ་ཡབ་གླིང་པའི་བསྟན་པ་འདི། །

tsungmé ngayab lingpé tenpa di

The incomparable teaching of the Guru in Ngayab Ling

སྲིད་པའི་མཐར་ཡང་མི་ནུབ་རྒྱས་པའི་ཕྱིར། །

sipé tar yang mi nub gyepé chir

Will grow and never decline, even at the very end of samsara,

གང་ཁྱོད་བསྐལ་པ་རྒྱ་མཚོར་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

gang khyö kalpa gyatsor tak zhuk sol

Remain forever, for countless aeons, I pray.

ཞེས་རིས་སུ་མ་ཆད་པའི་བསྟན་པའི་ཁུར་ཆེན་ལྷུར་བཞེས་མཁན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་བསོད་ནམས་དར་རྒྱས་མཆོག་གི་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ་འདེབས་དགེ་ལེགས་དཔལ་སྟེར་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་འདིའང་དམ་པ་དེ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་ཞལ་སློབ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་རྟེན་བཅས་བསྐུལ་ངོར་རབ་བྱུང་བཅུ་བདུན་པའི་ཆུ་ཡོས་ཟླ་བ་༧པའི་ཚེས་༥བཟང་པོར་རྫོང་སར་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱ་མཚོས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པ་དོན་དང་ལྡན་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག། །།

This long-life prayer, called ‘An Abundant Gift of Good Fortune’, is for the esteemed Khen Rinpoche Sonam Dargye, someone who has devoted himself to the all-important responsibility of maintaining the unbiased, non-sectarian teaching. At the request of his disciples, along with offerings, on the ‘excellent’ fifth day of the seventh month of the Water Hare year of the seventeenth cycle (21st August 2023), Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Thubten Chökyi Gyatso made this prayer, and may its meaning be completely accomplished!
