39. Negative Actions of the Body

Longchen Nyingtik Meditation 39

The Beginning

Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.

The Main Part

There are three negative actions of the body: taking life, taking what is not given, and sexual misconduct. Meditate:

If you have killed another being in a previous life, no matter where you are reborn in this life, your lifespan will be short and riddled with many illnesses. The place where you live will be harsh, overrun by dangerous ravines and abysses. As the fully ripened effect, you will experience the suffering of the three lower realms.

Taking what is not given causes rebirth in underdeveloped, poor, and famine-stricken areas, where crops are constantly destroyed by frost and hail. The fully ripened effect of stealing is falling into the three lower realms, especially the preta realm.

Transgression in sex leads to having strained marital relationship and scores of enemies. You will be born in deserted and repulsive dwellings, and its fully ripened effect is also falling into the lower realms.

Hence, resolve: From now on I must banish the three negative actions of the body.

The Ending

Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
